1. Q. Why is Plan K less expensive than fractional ownership?
  A. Plan K is less expensive because it eliminates the fees for depreciation and management charged by major fractional companies. These costs are subsidized by the owners of the aircraft, who make their planes available for charter to defray their own costs. If you consider the cost of money required for acquisition fees, the savings are even greater.

2. Q. How can you guarantee that a plane will be available?
  A. KaiserAir actually has more business jets based in the San Francisco Bay Area than any of the major fractional companies. In addition, we restrict the number of Plan K clients so we can ensure availability of aircraft within our fleet.

3. Q. What happens if I don't use all my 100 hours?
  A. If a client signs a Plan K agreement in good faith and uses KaiserAir exclusively for its charter flights, there is no penalty. We understand that it is sometimes difficult to predict the exact number of hours precisely. We typically waive such charges in the interest of good long-term relationships with our clients.

4. Q. What if I use more than 100 hours?
  A. The hourly rate will be the same. If it appears that a client will use substantially more than 100 hours, we will renegotiate the hourly rate.

5. Q. How far ahead do I need to reserve?
  A. It is best to book your charter up to 30 days in advance. However, in an emergency, we have provided an aircraft within 2 hours of the request.

6. Q. How safe is KaiserAir compared to the national companies?
  A. KaiserAir has had a perfect safety record since it was formed in 1946 as the flight department of Henry J. Kaiser's group of companies. We have flown former presidents and prime ministers, meaning that our security and safety procedures have passed the scrutiny of both the Secret Service and Scotland Yard. We have flown more than 100 million miles.

7. Q. Can I specify the crewmembers that I want?
  A. All crewmembers must be mutually acceptable to KaiserAir and to our clients. With KaiserAir, we typically assign the same crewmembers to specific aircraft, meaning that you will get to know your crew. Our senior captains have more than 10,000 hours of flight time (more than what is required by most airlines) and have been with us an average of 18 years.

8. Q. What if I don't want to fly out of Oakland?
  A. We can pick you up at the airport of your choice. However, Oakland has less fog than SFO and no curfews like San Jose. If the airport closest to your home is closed, you may prefer coming to Oakland by car instead of delaying your trip.

9. Q. What if I want a one-way flight?
  A. Costs are higher for one-way flights, as the aircraft usually has to return to its base empty. However, you still save money over fractional ownership in all but a handful of scenarios.

10. Q. What kind of aircraft are available?
  A. KaiserAir's fleet has Citations, Hawkers and Gulfstreams, including the Gulfstream IVSP.

11. Q. Can I fly to other countries?
  A. Yes. Unlike fractional companies, KaiserAir can take you anywhere in the world. We currently are flying clients for business and pleasure to Europe, Asia and North and South America. KaiserAir was the first to fly the Gulfstream business jet to New Zealand, Australia and China.

12. Q. Do I have any upfront costs?
  A. Yes. You will pay a deposit based on expected charges prior to each quarter of the year during this agreement. This gives you priority positioning for use of aircraft in the fleet. This payment will be used only for your charter flights. KaiserAir will administer a strict accounting, showing charter flight costs and an account balance after each charter.

13. Q. Why is Plan K better?
  A. In addition to less expense, KaiserAir's Plan K makes large, medium and small jets available to fit your travel needs under a single plan and offers unrestricted travel worldwide. KaiserAir also has a perfect safety record during 55 years of domestic and international flying.

14. Q. How can I find out how much I can save using Plan K?
  A. Contact Sandy Waters at or 510-553-8437, and let us know what kind of fractional ownership plan you currently have or are considering. We will send you a personal chart showing how much you could save under Plan K.

15. Q. Why is the sky blue?
  A. It's not. But when sunlight travels through the atmosphere, blue light scatters more than the other colors, leaving a dominant yellow-orange hue to the transmitted light. The scattered light makes the sky blue; the transmitted light makes the sunset reddish orange.
